Bill Overend has practiced law in Athens, Georgia since 2002. A native of Atlanta, Georgia, Bill is a graduate of the Westminster Schools. After receiving a degree in journalism from the University of Georgia in 1993, Bill remained in Athens, working in journalism and event promotion.
In 1999 Bill returned to UGA for law school and graduated, with honors, from the School of Law in 2002. From 2002- 2005, Bill was an Assistant District Attorney for the Western Judicial Circuit (Athens-Clarke and Oconee counties), handling numerous bench and jury trials, and eventually rising to the position of Felony Drug Prosecutor.
In 2005, Bill joined McArthur & McArthur, P.A. In March 2008, they formed McArthur, McArthur & Overend, L.L.P where Bill’s practice focused on Domestic and Family Law; Criminal Defense, Personal Injury, and Entertainment Law.
Bill began mediating civil and domestic relations cases in 2009 and has successfully helped hundreds of cases reach resolutions without the risk and expense of trial.
In 2017, Bill left McArthur, McArthur & Overend to focus on mediation. He maintains a selective domestic and family law practice, specializing in representing victims of domestic violence.
Bill is active in the Athens, Georgia community. He is a past Chair of The Athens Downtown Development Authority, and is a past or former member of several other non-profit boards, including the Athens Justice Project, The Athens Twilight Foundation and Athens Little League.
